DCL Siemens Engineering Ltd. provided engineering services for the preparation of a water and wastewater infrastructure study which investigated upgrading requirements for the Town's water and wastewater system to meet a design population projection of 5300. (Current Town population is 4300). Several upgrading projects have been undertaken to date including a sanitary outfall sewer installation and major water system upgrading.
The water system upgrade has included raw water transfer system improvements, raw water reservoir aeration, a new 900 USgpm (4700 m3/d) water treatment plant, 1700 m3 treated water reservoir expansion and treated water pumping upgrading. The new water treatment plant includes a dual train treatment system complete with bulk chemical storage for alum and caustic soda and separate chemical feed systems for each treatment train. Improvements at the Town's 4500 m3 storage reservoir includes a variable frequency drive (VFD) for three electric pumps and fire pump control system upgrading. The project was completed in 1999. Total project cost was approximately $3 million.
